Sometimes I see people who write emails or letters addressed to a bunch of people:
“Dear friends,”
“Dear operation managers,”
“I’m writing to you all to inform you that”
…etc.
Don’t do that.
Always write to one person. And one person alone.
…because if I start reading an email addressed to “you all,” it may or may not be relevant to me. The reader may or may not intend to address me. It’s unclear. But if the email is written to “you” singular… I know he’s addressing me. It’s clear. He’s talking to me directly. He’s ‘looking me in the eyes’ throughout his email. And I’ll listen to that email.
